We do! Yoga is a huge passion of Dr. Layne's and is about so much more than its physical benefits. We do believe yoga is right for every person, every body, and every age. Yoga is not just about movement, and doesn't just offer strength and flexibility, but really helps the student better understand their body's needs. It is a practice in self-care.
Dr. Layne found yoga during a very tough time in her life, after having become very traumatized as a clinician and very exhausted prioritizing everyone else's needs but her own. She had become so disembodied she had no self-compassion. In fact, she was so detached from herself, but achieving great success for others, that she really thought she was in a very healthy place. Professionally, she was a success, but there was a sort of chronic nag in her personal life that was unfulfilled. She was often reminding herself that once this "next thing" was accomplished, she could finally really invest in her own health, or find peace and relaxation. It was always just around the corner, right?
Yoga helped her turn into herself. Every day on the mat, she paid attention to herself. She began to listen and not too long after, she began to recognize and honor her authentic self. This is what she wants to offer each of her clients, and the community. Everyone is welcome!
Members of Eden are invited to our yoga and mindfulness classes and workshops at a discounted price. We also offer both a facebook group and a forum on our website, specifically for our clients, where free yoga classes are offered. Workshops are available through Eden on a variety of topics. These are also integrated into wellness and restorative treatment plans for our primary care clients. Children are offered yoga hikes and nature art, and yoga classes every other Saturday morning.
Yoga has demonstrated greater benefit than even exercise and much of that is how it impacts our nervous system, and deregulates stress. Teaching these principles to children can impact their entire lives. Imagine entering adulthood with healthy coping skills and confidence in your mindfulness practice!
