Yoga Teacher Training

with Dr. Penny Lane

Yoga is truly transformative. Whether your desire is to teach, to deepen your practice, or to take a journey in self-discovery, even to build connection, committing a few hours each week, for a few months, to exploring the eight limbs of yoga practice can offer great healing and growth.

As stress and trauma accumulate, we dissociate; we disconnect from our bodily experience due to overwhelming emotions. Embodiment teaches us about the power of resilience and the human heart's capacity to learn from our mistakes and align with our innermost truth, urging us to engage with life more fully so we can delight in this human experience.

This program offers weekly, live virtual classes, on Sunday afternoons, online course work to be done on your own time through the week, and four in-person intensives.

Credentials

Dr. Lane is also a Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse-Midwife with 30 years of clinical experience, 20 as a clinician. Weeks One & Two

Yoga as a Wellness Practice & Exploring Your Individual Practice

We will spend the first two weeks grounding ourselves, noticing what we notice about our journey as it is now, and exploring what yoga has to offer, creating new habits for manifesting our intentions, and exploring the eight-limb path of the yogi and yoginni.

Week Three

Yoga Sutras

The Yoga Sutras codified a spiritual path that was already centuries old. We will explore the nature of the human condition, human potential, and how that potential can be realized. You will find nothing in this ancient text contradicts the precepts of any religion. Instead, you will find a step-by-step guide to right living, a guide that complements the goals of any spiritual tradition.

Week Four

Trauma-Informed Yoga

Trauma can be very insidious in that we don't always know what we've buried or why, and we don't always recognize how it is presenting or projecting in our lives. We will learn how to honor the experiences of others, exploring neuroplasticity, the nervous system, neurochemicals, and the polyvagal theory.

Week Five

Meditation & Yoga Nidra

Cultivating the habit of meditation, exploring shavasana, finding your dristhi and recognizing your dharma. We will work to create a ritual that you can integrate to support this season of your life.

Week Six

Common Misconceptions

Many false teachings are offered in yoga, from good intentions certainly, but we will explore that fine line between ancient wisdom and modern scientific understanding, and prune misinformation.

Week Seven

Pranayama

Our breath is said to be how we control our life force, or even the breath of liberation, a tool for expanding our usually small reservoir of energy. Our breath is the most important thing. We will find comfort in our own ujjayi breath, in our posture, and explore breathing practices.

Week Eight

Exploring Asanas

We will explore various yoga asanas, finding a safe practice, working through the vinyasa flow including chaturanga, and understanding yoga through movement.

Week Nine

Balancing the Feminine & Masculine

Archetypes may be derived from elements found in nature, mythological stories, spiritual symbols, aspects of character, geometrical patterns and shapes, even certain words or anything at tall. When we identify archetypes that we are either averse, or which truly resonate, this can be a powerful call to greater understanding of the true self within you.

Week Ten

Finding Your Yoga Niche

What style of yoga resonates with you? We'll talk about finding your niche, yoga specialization, certifications, and what it takes to be a good yoga instructor.

Week Eleven

Energy Bodies

This week we will dive into the energetic, or metaphysical. We will explore the body's energy channels, the chakras, Ayurveda, the bandhas, and the koshas.

Week Twelve thru Fifteen

Hips & Thighs

Shoulders, Arms, Back & Neck

Posture & Spine

Core Strength & Pelvic Health

These weeks will be breaking down the anatomy and physiology of the body into sections, understanding how the body works, how to cue safely, and how to build a flow that is safe and builds strength in each area of the body.

Week Sixteen

Ethics & Principles

We will come back to the yamas and the niyamas, and create a foundation for nonharm and social restraint. We'll explore diversity, honoring all bodies, equity and justice. We will also speak about yoga ettiquette.

Week Seventeen

Yoga as a Healing Practice

We'll reflect on where we've come from the first week of this journey, exploring all the various pathways of yoga and really dive into shavasana and its healing attributes.

Week Eighteen

Teaching Yoga as a Business Professional

Time to get behind the scenes of teaching yoga and running a business. As a clinician, I've built a seven figure practice and hurdled many challenges. You can learn from my mistakes.

Week Nineteen

Mudras & Mantras

We will explore everything mudras and mantras, creating a flow to integrate these practices into our yoga flow.

Week Twenty

Lineages & Methodologies

We will return to our yoga studies from earlier in the program now with greater understanding, and find a deeper appreciation for the lineage of yoga and where we are about to embark, as a teacher.

Week Twenty-One

Introspection

Honoring the practice of noticing, discovering our sankalpa, cultivating metta. How will you share your light into the future? How might you need to set intentions and surrender your past experiences? What archetypes resonates with you and where do you feel your yoga element lies?

Week Twenty-Two

Final Projects

Students will engage in final projects of their choice, which will be shared this week.

Workshop Intensives

Alignment Workshop

This workshop will explore shamanism, astrology, numerology, tarot, the elements, and Reiki as a way to lean into your intuition, in effort to develop your inner-knowing - your svadhyaya. We will work to identify our most authentic self, our dharma, nurture our inner child, and commit to self-care from self-study.

We will spend this workshop in nature, ground, earth bathing, and exploring the land, as well as Mother Nature's botanicals for healing. We will discuss Ayurvedic medicine, crystal healing, the history of Women Healers, goddesses, and the Solar Calendar.

We will practice the Sun and Moon salutations and practice creating a class sequence, class themes, and gain confidence teaching students.

This workshop will explore the anatomy of yoga. We'll talk about stretching verses strengthening and somatic therapies verses mind-body work. We will explore cueing for proper alignment, modifications, use of props, and adjusting students, as well as introduce energy loops and spirals.

About Me.

Your instructor, Dr. Penny Lane, is a Certified Yoga Instructor, Family Nurse-Practitioner, and Certified Nurse-Midwife with a clinical practice in both Kentucky and Indiana. She is an herbalist, specializing in functional and integrative medicine, and passionate about healing trauma, creating space for oneself and all people, and connecting with Mother Nature. She has six children of her own and when working in her practice, on her yoga mat, or finding fun with her daughter, Ruby, she is on the dance floor.

Is Yoga Teacher Training for You?

Training is a big commitment. We will dig deep into curriculum and yoga practice for 22 weeks. And there is preparation, so take a moment to consider if this is right for you. This 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program will meet weekly, online, from noon-thirty to 1pm to 4pm every Sunday. Sixty-six hours we will spend together on our mat, and then four times within the program, we will meet for intensive workshops. Each of these will be another 8 hours. Outside of the times we meet, you'll need to spend 6-7 hours working through the curriculum each week, so overall, you'll want to assure you can carve out 10 hours for yourself, weekly. Maybe it is time for you to put yourself first.

What you will need:

Props

Your yoga mat is one of the more important investments, any variety. You'll also want at least one bolster, a rectangular bolster, but a round, firm bolster may also be a nice addition. A yoga blanket for support and warmth, most especially in shavasana, and a few yoga blocks and a yoga strap are also needed. A portable speaker will eventually be helpful.

Books

The bulk of your knowledge will be gained from the online course itself, but you will want to invest in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

At Home

You will need a computer for this training, at home. You will also need an audio recording device, a camera for recording yourself for uploading to social media. Therefore, you will also need internet access. You will need a quiet space to practice in, and do homework. Let your friends and family know you are in school again, so they can support you and allow you the time you need.

There are no refunds. The entire program fee is expected once you have online access to the program. If the timing doesn't work for you or an unexpected event prevents you from moving forward in the program, then you can absolutely join a subsequent program, but the entire program fee will be expected as the program itself has been made available to you. I can't be responsible for emergencies or illnesses, but will accommodate to the best of my ability to help you succeed in your growing yoga practice. Students may make up time with myself, at an hourly rate, as necessary to stay on track. You hold responsibility for moving through the program from week to week. If students are unable to maintain their commitment to their studies, they may be asked to repeat the program at a later time. Passing the training, for certification, is at the discretion of the teacher.
