Earthing: This Doctor's Prescription for Well-Being

Updated: Jul 13, 2020

Known as connecting ourselves to the surface of the #planet through sitting, standing, or walking #barefoot on Earth (or by sleeping on special conductive sheets and pads connected to a simple metal rod stuck in the ground outside a bedroom window), earthing restores and maintains the human body's most natural electrical state, which in turn promotes optimum health and functionality in daily life. The primordial natural energy emanating from the Earth is the ultimate anti-inflammatory and the ultimate anti-aging medicine and one I prescribe essentially all my clients.

The Earth beneath our feet contains great healing energy and when we connect ourselves to this energy we attain insurmountable benefit. This is exceedingly intuitive and remarkably simple, yet our generation is ignorant to this phenomenon. We aren't taught this in school. We've become disconnected and separated from the earth. We wear shoes with thick soles. Our feet rarely touch the ground. We sleep on elevated bed far from the ground within homes built from yet another insulation, solid wood. We breathe air circulated repeatedly within our home. It is this disconnect that magnifies our suffering beyond what was ever intended.

Connecting with Mother Earth

Sit, stand, lay, or walk barefoot on the ground for half an hour and undoubtedly you will feel great peace and greater vitality. If you have inflammation of any sort, pain or indigestion, even jet lag, go outside. Sit in the creek. Hug a tree. Get in the #dirt. Connect with the earth.

Our life-styles today separate us from the limitless energy offered from the Earth. Have you ever noticed a subtle tingling rising from the Earth when you walk barefoot? I feel this whether I am walking on stones in the river, within the grass, or along the beach. This energy is very revitalizing and this isn't just wishful thinking; it's science.

Our planet has natural energies which are measurable. Put another way, our planet is a six sextillion (a six with twenty-one zeros after it) metric ton battery that is continually being replenished by solar radiation, lightning, and heat from its deep-down molten core. There is a rhythm and balance among this energy for each and every living thing that lives on this planet. Our ancestors bathed in the forest's energy, sleeping and eating on the ground. When they were inflamed, they emitted a higher abundance of negative ions which could be exchanged and therefore, their bodies balanced and healed by grounding with the earth.

As we modernized our culture, we distanced ourselves from the Earth and only recently has this significance been explored and explained by scientific experts in geophysics, biophysics, electrical engineering, electrophysiology, and medicine. These disciplines have taught us that, it is in fact, the earth that maintains the order of our own bodily frequencies. We all live and function on an electrical planet and are electrical beings.

Our very complex bodies have trillions of cells which constantly transmit and receive energy. The movement of nutrients into our cells is regulated by our electrical fields, and each type of cell has a frequency range in which it operates. Our movements, behaviors, and actions are all energizes by our electrical frequencies. Just like the earth, we are mostly water and minerals, both excellent conductors of electrons. These energetic energies are more positive during the day, supporting our daily activities, and less positive during the nighttime to support sleep. Our sleep-wake cycles, #hormone production, and #circadian rhythms are regulated by our electrical energy.

Generations before us greatly appreciated the connection between humans and the Earth without knowing anything about electrons. Civilizations everywhere have recognized and tuned into the cycles of nature for survival and health. Midwives can't deny the impact the moon's cycle and the dips in our barometer have on the female cycle and when births occur. Mother Nature's rhythm regulates our sleep-wake cycles and helps to maintain our health. Earthing has better regulated blood pressure, relieved muscle tension, lessened hormonal symptoms, sped healing, increased energy, and accelerated recovery from intense athletic activity.

If you are feeling disconnected, stuck, in need of more balance, go sit in the stream. Let the forest bathe you and the Earth cleanse you of negative ions. "Illnesses do not come upon us out of the blue. They are developed from small daily sins against Nature. When enough sins have accumulated, illnesses will suddenly appear." -Hippocrates
